February Blog Update and Income Report

Well month 2 is gone & over, so let’s have a little February blog update.  Since I made my first pennies (literally) this month I’ll add a bonus income report at the end!

This month I had hoped to get a few more posts published but in the end I published exactly the same.  I know that I would have better overall numbers if I had more posts go live.  This month had me feeling like I was behind a lot and I struggled to keep up with some of my facebook blogging groups.

My top three blogs of the month were:

  1. The one thing you can do today to upgrade your bathroom
  2. How to get amazing results with peel and stick tile
  3. When you don’t get it right art is the answer (green and white bathroom redo)

I had hoped to have my email freebie announced and published but alas, no.  I did get the first draft out to 3 people I trust for revisions and feed back.  After hearing from everyone I feel like I either need to simplify it for it be be a better intro piece or dig in and add a lot more bulk to it.  If I do the later I feel like it might make for a better ebook for me to sell than to use as a freebie.  Needless to say I didn’t get it published on the site, though I did make good progress.

February Blog Metrics:

  • Blog Posts:  7 (vs January 7)
    • Hopefully in March I can push that number to at least 8.  I am still searching for a good time/balance on when to write, take pictures, and publish/promote the posts.
  • Pageviews:  272 (vs January 167)
    • Overall page views are up, so that’s great!  Hopefully they continue to trend up!
  • Pinterest:  391 (vs January 369)
    • I am still confused by Pinterest and Board Booster.  I did go ahead and subscribe to a paid trial.  That puts me at $5/month of investment on top of my previous expenses.  It’s not a lot but I want to keep it in mind.  I am not seeing much traffic (no viral posts here yet) from Pinterest so I clearly haven’t gotten in tune with it yet.  Part of why my blog posts were fewer this month was because I was trying to work on my Pinterest account.
  • Instagram: 206 (vs January 154)
    • I was PUMPED to see my following hit 200 this past month!  It  didn’t grow as much as I had the month before but I’ll take any growth I can.  I am noticing that I am connecting with lots of other bloggers/influencers but I’m not sure if I’m connecting with my target audience on here as much as I felt like I was in month 1.  I have some ideas that I’m going to try and implement to see if they work better in the next few weeks.
  • Facebook: 72 (vs January 41)
    • I’m happy with any growth or movement on the Facebook page because I’m not really doing anything on there at the moment.  I’m honestly shocked it’s up to 72.
  • Email Subscribers:  (vs January 11 )
    • Since I haven’t gotten my freebie set up yet I haven’t been pushing anyone towards the email list yet.  I gained 2 new subscribers this month, one is my neighbor (Hi, Anna!) and the other is my first unknown to me subscriber.

Money Talk

Last month I worried because I hadn’t gotten my amazon affiliate approval or Google Ad Sense set up for my blog.  I am happy to report that both, along with Shop Style Collective, are currently at work on the blog.  Here are the earnings for the month from each source:

  • Amazon Affiliate:  $0
    • I haven’t done much with Amazon yet.  I’ve added a few misc links but so far have preferred the ease of the widgets I can create on Shop Style Collective.
  • Shop Style Collective: $0.25 (represents 5 sales)
    • I love the ease of use of their site and the widgets make great additions to my post.  Will continue to utilize this heavily in the future.
  • Google Ad Sense:  $0.94
    • I didn’t know what to expect but once I got it set up (using the Building A Framework Ebook as a guide) it’s basically been on auto pilot.  I was shocked when I made $0.08 my first day!  It’s not much but it tells me it’s possible to make money in this gig.

My goals for March are:

  • Try and connect with followers in my niche on Instagram.
  • Get my Pinterest stats up to start seeing traffic click through to the blog
  • Post 8 blogs
  • Get my email freebie published

What are your goals for the month (blog or otherwise)?

Blogging is HARD WORK but you are doing amazing! All you can ask for us the numbers to go up! I started my blog about a month ago and by participating in different Facebook groups I’ve seen a jump in my numbers. One challenge I participated in was called the 10k challenge- where you meet others in your niche and beyond and you all help boost your followers collectively. I gained 400 followers on Instagram alone in 10 days! If you like feel free to email me and I’d be happy to help! Happy blogging!!

That’s amazing! Do you feel like they are engaged readers or fellow bloggers? I’m somewhat afraid of only growing through other bloggers (tho it is a huge blessing to connect with like minded people).

That for sharing your numbers! I have been blogging seriously for two months and am around the same rate you are. I must say, the first time I made a penny I was elated! Ran around the house telling my family who were also excited for my penny. It meant so much more than one cent, it meant this can work! Wishing you the best!

Glad to hear you’re around the same as me. I was exactly the same when the first pennies came in! My husband thought I was crazy but to me it was a confirmation. Good luck to you!!!!

Thanks for sharing your numbers – always helpful to see the benchmark.
