As I’ve been trying to figure out what rods to use for my living room curtains I’ve come across several curtain rod DIY’s on how to make your own rods. (I’m pinning all of my favorite DIY Tutorials here.) There are a fair amount of DIY tutorials on how to make your own curtains rods but so far I haven’t found one that seems 100% right for me. Since some of us have a hard time finding the right rods (ahem, me) I thought I’d round up some of the tutorials that I’m finding to be helpful.
Make Your Own Curtain Rods with these DIY Curtain Rod Tutorials. Here are the three tutorials that I have narrowed down to. All three use electrical conduit.
- Lynda Makara has a great tutorial that lays out each individual piece you need to look for at the hardware store. I also like that she includes how to add finials to the ends for a more finished look. Her method won’t work for me because I need a thicker rod but it’s still good that she includes an option for that. Click here to read the whole thing.
- I found this tutorial via pinterest from Crazy Little Daisy where they actually bend a pipe for a bay window. I don’t need that but I saved it because I love her idea to add finials using corks. Genius, and definitely a route I may end up taking. Click here to read the whole tutorial.
- Lovely Etc was the first tutorial I read that made me think this project was something I could tackle. She also talks about how she hacked Ikea’s Lenda curtain panels in this post. You can read her DIY here.
I am in need of 3 double curtain rods. We have a vaulted ceiling with wood paneling so I want a thicker rod so it doesn’t get lost with the walls. I haven’t found any tutorials where they use a 1″ conduit pipe for a rod (or finial options for a pipe that large) so if I tackle it I will definitely be coming back here with a tutorial. If you have any good curtain rod tutorials leave them in the comments!
