How to make cheap garland look expensive with these simple tips!
When we moved into our house we inherited tubs of faux garland from the previous owners. There was a lot of it but none of it was super nice. Over the years I’ve experimented with it and have come up with one very simple way to make cheap garland look expensive. Ready for this groundbreaker? The key is to add STUFF to it. By ‘stuff’ I mean add layers of more garland, ornament clusters, lights, picks, and anything you can think of!
In my living room I hang a strand of garland over the mantle every year. These photos from last year show that I have layered lights, a crystal garland, wood bead garland, multiple long gold tassles, ribbons, ornament clusters and picks.
In the basement, where all things merry & bright go, I follow the same rule of thumb.. To make cheap garland look expensive with this theme I have a patterned deco mesh, wired ribbon, lights, ornament clusters, picks & bows.
I keep the deco mesh & ribbon attached to the garland each year but add the excess picks & ornament clusters that don’t fit on the tree.
Christmas is the most expensive time of year and each year I find areas that I could decorate more for Christmas! 🙂 Finding ways to rework my existing stash is creatively exciting AND saves me money! Do you decorate with garland? I never did until I moved to this house and now I’m a total convert. Tell me where you put garland in the comments!
