How To Professionally Decorate a Christmas Tree Using Oversized Items

To professionally decorate a Christmas tree there a few things that will help you achieve the look.  I talked about how to decorate a Christmas tree with ribbon already and today I’m going to share another pro tip:  adding oversized decorations!  When you vary the scale and texture of your Christmas ornaments it gives an unexpected twist to your tree and gives it the pro touch!

Using large items to decorate a christmas tree

These large glitter reindeer adorn our living room Christmas tree.  They are meant to be hanging decor but are the perfect large addition to the tree.  To attach I simply hook their legs & antlers into the tree branches.  You can always find pieces like this in any Christmas decor aisle.

Tips for how To professionally decorate a Christmas tree by adding oversized items:

  • For smaller trees add 3 oversized items, for an 8-10′ tree aim for 3-5
  • Stagger the items diagonally and avoid having them right above or next to each other.
  • Mix up the items!  They don’t all have to match or be specific Christmas decor!  Look for items in your color scheme or tree theme that would be unexpected!

Once the larger items are in place don’t forget to add picks to the tree for added texture.  The bigger the tree the bigger the picks can be also.  These two things will transform the look of your tree from standard to pro!
