Nothing brings the Christmas spirit to me the way a twinkling Christmas tree does. Our house is transformed each year with the addition of our 9 foot tree. Walk with me as I tour our white, gold and silver Christmas living room tree and decor with you today!
There is something so magical, and simple, to me about an all white themed Christmas tree. In our living room we currently have a 9 foot tree with white lights. Historically I have always had a white, gold and silver Christmas tree in our main living room (even in our old house) and even after all this time I still look forward to it all year. You can see the full tour of our living room here, but for those who are just now joining in our living room has all wood walls. So even though I keep the living room color scheme all white, gold and silver throughout the year the tone of the room is quite different than most all white rooms you currently see because of the warmth and contrast of the wood. (For curiosities sake, if you’re interested in what our old all-white living room looked like click here for the full tour.)
Our Christmas tree is hung with balls of white, silver and gold in varying shades, sizes and patterns. We have a mix of new and vintage ornaments and even many handmade pieces. This tree originally was more of a ‘show’ tree if you know what I mean. In our old house it was in the formal living room and it had all new ornaments because all of the other ones we had were silly ones from childhood or a hodge-podge collection. Our formal living room tree was the first time I ever went out and bought all new things from scratch. Over the years tho we’ve added to the ornament collection and I love that it now has that homey collected feel to it that is the soft spot for me.
I have also learned an important lesson when decorating a tree of this size: you’ve got to play with scale to make a big impact. While I love the ornament collection, part of what makes this tree special is that I’ve thrown in some larger, unexpected pieces. There are 4 glittery reindeer and several larger gold stars.
The rest of the living room plays so nicely with the Christmas tree that I don’t over do it with the decor. Having a white, gold and silver Christmas living room tree and decor is one of the easiest ‘themes’ there is to pull off! The mantle gets a garland and a few larger glittery trees (bigger items = easier to decorate and a bigger impact with less work). In the past I’ve had lights in the garland but a 25th hour fail with our prelit tree meant I had to steal them to save the tree – HA! I may grab an extra set of lights, but I may also be too lazy for that this year 🙂
The big tray stays on the coffee table all year but for the Christmas I take out the penny jar and replace it with the unfinished ceramic Christmas tree. (I found that at a garage sale for 50 cents! I’ve toyed with finishing it but then ended up loving it as is, plus when I leave it unfinished I can keep it up all winter.) I also pull off some of the extra books and put out my Christmas card album.
The furniture obviously gets rearranged to accommodate for the Christmas tree. I actually love having the couch in front of the fireplace and several years have kept it there after the holidays were over. I pile on extra throws around the room and run our scentsy with warm scents all season long. I just love Christmastime. <3
Do you go with a color scheme for your Christmas decor? If so do you go with traditional red & green or something else? I find it hard to stick with one color through the whole house and use different ones in different spaces. Tell me in the comments what your favorite Christmas colors are!
