Our house is one of those that has Christmas trees everywhere, I don’t care – we love it! So when I get a chance to do some ornament DIY’s I jump at the chance. This summer I helped my sister in law clean out her new classroom and we came across A LOT of different craft supplies (and junk and trash. SO MANY PAPERS). Well one of the things we found were several sets of small mirrored discs. At first they were in the donate pile but as I was looking at them I knew that they would make the perfect DIY mirror ornaments for Christmas. If you have 15 minutes and want to get crafty this tutorial is for you!
For this project you will need:
-
- A hot glue gun
- Glue Sticks
- Mirrored discs of your chosen size
- Ribbon or string
- Scissors
As you can tell the supply list is pretty short. To begin plug in your glue gun and allow it start heating up. Next roll out your ribbon and cut off pieces of ribbon that are between 6 – 8 inches long. The exact length is up to you and how long you like your ribbon loops. I tend to go a little longer because I have little hands helping decorate our trees. 🙂
Once your glue gun is heated and ribbon cut you will flip your mirrors over and loop your ribbon. The best way to have your mirrors hang straight is to make sure your ribbon is looped correctly. You want both ‘right’ sides of your ribbon facing the same side. There isn’t really a wrong way to do this, but if you can see how I glued mine that’s what I’m attempting to explain.
Go ahead and add a dollop of glue to the back of your ornaments and press your ribbon on. You will burn your finger if you press the ribbon down with that. I gently set my ribbon on the hot glue and then used the nozzle of the gun to press it down. Once your glue has cooled your ornament is done – viola!
What I love about these mirror ornaments is that they are subtle but add dimension and texture to my christmas trees. I took these photos months ago on a pencil tree that doesn’t have lights, but on our big living room tree I used these further back on the branches to layer. The reflected lights are so pretty.
Ok, so that’s it, the super simple DIY mirror ornaments for Christmas tutorial. I love to craft my way through the holiday – am I the only one?
