Celebrate & remember your loved ones during the holiday season with this special Memory Christmas Tree idea.
A few years ago I saw A Beautiful Mess post Instagram stories about a Memory Christmas Tree that they had put together. Having just lost a grandparent and feeling heavy with grief the idea spoke to me. I remember the original poster saying they had collected small frames throughout the year to create their tree. I have had 2 small pencil trees for several years now. I picked them up at a church garage sale for a few dollars each and they tend to float around the house wherever I want to add a bit of holiday spirit. The next time I was at the thrift store I decided to begin looking for small frames so I could create a Memory Christmas Tree of my own. I assumed it would take me a long time to collect the frames – boy was I wrong! I found over half of the small frames (many of them were ornaments that had been incorrectly put in the frame aisle) in one trip! I got the rest of my original collection at a second store that same day!
The ‘Virigina’ name tag is a nod to my great-grandmother, whose name was Virginia (nicknamed Ginger and who I am named after).
This was the sweetest Christmas tree to make. I did add a few ornaments to the tree along with the frames but it is mostly decorated with small silver and gold frames. To attach the non-ornament frames to the tree I either wrapped a tree branch to a hanger on the back of the frame or used pipecleaner to attach to the branch.
This is a tree that stays decorated all year. At the end of the season I wrap it with cloth and use safety pins to secure. Then at the beginning of the season I simply unwrap it. Easy!
I am a big believer in passing family history down to my kids and for them to grow up knowing the names, faces and stories of their ancestors. This tree is so soothing to my soul and an easy way for me to pass on those stories to my boys. Would you ever do a memory tree in your house for the holidays?
