Grand Little Place

Celebrate the dog-days of summer with this easy, vintage green and white tablescape!  The centerpiece, colors and texture make for an easy table setting for even the most last minute dinners.

There is something about the deep heat that make me feel those dog-days of summer vibes.  I will choose summer over fall  10/10 times but when it came time to pull this tablescape together I wasn’t in a bright color mood at all.  Maybe it’s the heat, or just knowing that these summer days with my boys are slowly winding down, but I wanted to pull something together that felt a little more casual and easy.  A green and white August tablescape was in order! I imagine pulling these dishes down from a cabin cupboard and slowly eating outside as the sun goes down one day.  Since our cabin is *a little* ways off from being done I couldn’t wait until then to begin enjoying them.

Before I begin setting any table I walk around and shop my house.  Shopping your house means that you walk around and look at items you already own in a new way.  I do this regularly to see if I can reuse items in creative ways.  For this workshop series I take my basket around my house and pull everything I own within a certain color palate or texture.

The inspiration for this month were the green and white plates.  A friend of mine thought they were plastic from Target, but they aren’t 🙂  They are a vintage set of ‘Original Plaid’.  The pattern and color are 100% ‘me’, I thrifted them and can’t wait to mix and match them in with some of my other plates for fall green and white tablescapes!

With all of my annabelle hydrangeas in bloom I decided to keep the setting ‘outdoor neutral’.  The table throw is an oversized turkish peshtemal towel.  The subtle stripe and fringe made for a casual backdrop to layer upon.  I grabbed these green fringed placemats and topped them with my silver chargers and the plaid plates.

 

To carry on with the ‘outdoor neutral’ theme I grabbed a flower pot from the porch and plopped it in the middle of the table.  The weathered concrete planter was perfect (chefs kiss!) and the layered green textures were exactly what pulled this table together.

And because I always have an assistant just out of the frame, here is one of my helper for the day directing my shots 😉
