Last year I did 2 different Thanksgiving tablescapes so when I went to set my table this year I decided to do 2 again. I shared my dining room Thanksgiving inspiration the other day, you can find it here, but today I am going to show the table setting I did on our smaller kitchen table. I have enjoyed doing the scaled down Thanksgiving ideas for small tables because I find that most of the time I go all out with my table (to actually use, not just display) it is for my immediate family, which is just 4 people. I like to do special tables for holiday breakfasts or birthdays. My boys like walking into a ‘done’ table, I enjoy putting them together and it always feels like a fun way to mark a special day. With 2020 being the year of ‘togetherness and home’ I am considering this a bit of Thanksgiving-in-quarantine inspiration since many people will undoubtly choose to spend the day at home with their immediate family.
For reference this table comfortably sits 4 people, but can sit 6 in a pinch. I say this so you get a real idea of how this setting would feel. I designed it so that it felt full and special with layers for texture, but there is definitely adequate space for actual eating (the centerpiece is still on my table). To make the centerpiece I simply went outside and clipped a few branches from a colorful bush. I love the abstract quality of the branches and the pop of color. The vase is sitting casually on a wood slice with a rock next to it (remember how I always like to incorporate rocks in my vignettes? Click over to read about how to create the perfect cozy home.) For a bit of casual elegance and polish I added the small silver pitcher to round out the centerpiece.
Another reason why its fun to set a smaller table is because you don’t have to have as large of sets of matching dishes for the settings. I personally like a mix and match table but sometimes I have smaller sets of matching dishes that I’d like to use. These autumnal dishes were found at a thrift store a few years back and I grabbed them somewhat tongue-in-cheek because they almost perfectly match our foyer wallpaper. Since adding the orange lamps to the kitchen and the red stems to the centerpiece they seemed the perfect addition to this smaller table. The amber wine glasses are also a thrift find. I love a good thrift trip, and am a sucker for dishware, and table settings are the perfect time to pull out all of the treasures I’ve collected.
If you’re planning a scaled back Thanksgiving I hope that this round of scaled down Thanksgiving ideas for small tables is helpful to you. Grab out your favorite dishes, forage a colorful branch and you’ve got yourself a pretty table for the holiday. I promise you and yours will feel special dining on your feast after giving your table a bit of love!
Happy Thanksgiving friends!
