If I was a good blogger I would have published a post about my Easter table over a month ago but I’m just a regular mom who is riding out this quarantine like everyone else. My normal blogging has mostly been put on hold while I switch gears to home schooling and having everyone home 24/7. As Easter approached I didn’t know what to do with the day. Of course we were going to do church, egg hunting and baskets but beyond that it was looking like a regular day. Here’s the thing though, sometimes I like to pull out all of the stops to do things up big. The idea had crossed my mind to do a big fancy Easter dinner and have us all dress up, but the part of me that is a realist was tired. I just didn’t have it in me to try and rally my two young boys and husband into a fancy dinner party. Imagine my surprise when they came to me and suggested we do a big dinner and dress up! I was thrilled to have an excuse to play with some Easter table settings and do the day up right!
For our quarantine Easter dinner I made a big dinner. Chris and I even made Hot Cross Buns, which we will probably never do again since they ended up taking over 5 hours, ha! Our day was lovely, peaceful and such a gift to me (even tho I was exhausted by the time I fell into bed). Since it was such a high point for our quarantine I decided to go ahead and blog about it – even if it a week past the holiday.
I was desperate for flowers, and should have just bought a grocery bouquet when I was there earlier in the week but I didn’t. The day before Easter I grabbed some loppers and hit up a redbud tree. These little branches were the perfect abstract addition to our tablescape. The rest of the Easter table settings were pulled from my dishware collection. My go to placemats are these round banana leaf chargers. I love the heft and texture they add to any table setting. I topped them with sterling silver chargers, yellow depression glass plates and a small floral china bowl. For the linens I grabbed this vintage green gingham bed sheet (did you guess it was a sheet?) and some yellow napkins. The napkins were ‘tied’ with the sweet white bow napkin rings. I’ve slowly been collecting vintage silver flatware (I love the heft and designs) and set our table with those as well. I kept the glassware simple and each person had a cut glass goblet.
Since we were all dressed up I set up the camera and tripod and got out the camera remote. Normally I like to take our family photos on our front porch but it was very dark, rainy and cold outside. After we were all dressed and the table was set we snapped a few in our dining room. They turned out fine, a normal photo of us, but this last photo is hands down my favorite. I feel like the real live (mini) version of that Normal Rockwell painting “Freedom From Want”. The camera was still set up so I clicked the remote one last time and got this one. Perhaps I should title this “Freedom In Quarantine”. I wasn’t expecting anything to turn out but I absolutely love it. This one is going to make it into a print and frame somewhere.
I hope you are all hanging in out there. It’s been a roller coaster for me but I am SO thankful for this family of mine who I’m riding it out with and this online space for me to share it on. Thank you for checking in and following along friends. It means more than you know. As I’m not able to keep up with my normal blogging schedule at the moment please make sure to follow me on Instagram to stay connected. You’ll normally find me with askew hair and the softest clothes I can find. 🙂
