Today’s post is a blast from the past but one I’ve been meaning to share for years. Yes, I said years. This summer my oldest babe turns 8. EIGHT?! Slow this time down please! But before he was 7, 6, 5, 4, or 3 he was 2. And as the sweetest 2 year old I ever did know his favorite thing was books. This is a boy who has had a favorite book since he was 6 months old (The Grandpa Book by Todd Parr*). So when his 2nd birthday came around he had a reading themed book birthday party. I’ve thrown a lot of birthday parties for these boys but this still ranks as one of my favorites.
We used the Dale Patton Schoolhouse at William Jewell College for this party. Decor was kept simple with a red and blue color scheme (also his life long favorites). The space has individual wood student desks and were set with a ‘book report’ and a bag of ‘book worms’.
Decorating this party was SO fun! I didn’t find much inspiration on Pinterest for this party so most of these ideas came straight from my own head. When trying to come up with ideas for a book birthday party I looked around at the venue and what we already had. This Golden Book banner was so very simple! We strung a piece of twine, opened vintage Golden Books and used clothes pins to hold them up. The result was a custom 3D banner! The banner that is hanging across the chalkboard was also a custom banner. I picked up a vintage book at the thrift store and used a package of double fold bias tape and sewed the pages in between the bias tape. If you can sew a straight stitch you can do this. You could also use glue for this project.
This party and the little dude it was in honor of make my heart smile so big. I mean does it get any sweeter than babies and books?! I love the primary colors and the vintage setting – and from a mom point a view this party was a BREEZE to set up & clean up – double win! Do you have a favorite party you’ve ever thrown? If so tell me the theme in the comments!
