Easy Valentines Decor

When it comes to the smaller holidays, like Valentines Day, I am all about the K.I.S.S. method of decorating – Keep It Simple, Stupid (also, did you know that the US NAVY came up with that acronym?).ย  In fact I really don’t own that much holiday specific decor for Valentines Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, the 4th, or Labor Day.ย  Currently I have a small tub of Valentines specific decor and another small tub of ‘Spring decor’ but that’s it.ย  I also don’t spend hardly any money on these decorations.ย  I am pretty sure that each of my Valentine items came from the Target dollar spot or the Dollar Tree!

Because I just finished decorating my entire house top to bottom for Christmas I kept the Valentines decor to a few key spots.ย  My dining room is just inside of the front door so I put together a festive tablescape.ย  I also minimally decorated our living room mantle.ย  I had 3 small garlands left over and along with a free printable so each of our bedroom doors got a festive garland and I hung the printable with washi tape in the hallway.ย  Kids love any sort of change of decor in the season for the holidays.ย  Both of my boys were so excited to see the little 1 garlands strung across their doors!

Dining Room Set for Valentines Day with pink vintage mid century ottomans
These ottomans were inherited from my husbands grandparents (along with the painting). I’ve never had a great spot for them but they are certainly perfect for Valentines day!

The table needed height and dimension so on a whim I grabbed these gold, glitter trees from the Christmas bins. They were the perfect space filler!

I found a set of 4 of these giant tassels years ago at an auction for a song. I love using them when I need added texture and whimsy.

These pink napkins don’t get used often because 1) I live in a house of boys and 2) their vintage size is a bit small for napkin rings. To remedy the size I layered them with a larger white napkin – it worked like a charm!
I didn’t want to recreate the wheel for my living room mantle so a garland, wreath, 2 $1 target Valentines Day buckets and some ‘XOXO’ letters fit the bill. The photos I pulled from around the room and scattered across the mantle around the existing artwork. My boys loved seeing their pictures on the fireplace!
My best tips to anyone out there looking to add a little bit of love around their house for Valentines Day:

Thanks Lara! I’ve had them forever and even tho I don’t use them often I just can’t bring myself to part with them! They are the most perfect shade of pink!

I love your mantle and your centerpiece, and my favorite thing about it is that you repurposed Christmas decor! So creative!

I do not really decorate for the smaller holidays. I do love all of the pieces you have chosen to decorate with! The KISS method works perfectly for the holidays that do not require as much decorations.

Truthfully I didn’t begin decorating for the smaller holidays either until my oldest son was old enough to begin to know they existed. He was so excited about it I figured why not!

You are so so creative! I love the idea of K.I.S.S. and I have heard it before but never knew that the US Navy came up with that term haha. Anyway, your decor looks awesome. Thanks for the inspiration.

I like the idea of keeping things small for holidays like this. We have some window clings I let the kids put up and a few pink/red accents around the house. I really love the beautiful colors in that painting.

My kids love window clings too, I let them do them in their rooms (their favorite space to decorate). My husbands grandparents commissioned that painting, it a favorite for sure!
